I've been DIY-dermaplaning for years. It’s fantastic. That said, maintaining silky skin post-’plane requires upkeep; a brief rendezvous with your dermaplaner once every week or so. Upkeep hardly bothers me — in fact, I enjoy the satisfaction of the slough.
